Hi! I’m Dr. theo buzea

I was born in Eastern Europe and embarked on a new journey to Canada at the young age of five. Growing up, I experienced the diverse landscapes of Alberta, moving through various regions with my family. At 16, inspired by the profound impact of local Optometrists in Calgary, I set my sights on a career in Optometry, realizing the often-overlooked importance of vision care.

Pursuing this dream, I dedicated myself to academic excellence and was thrilled to join the Biomedical Science program at the University of Waterloo. My journey there was marked by diligence and a bit of good fortune, culminating in my admission to the University of Waterloo's Optometry school. This exceptional program broadened my understanding of all facets of Optometry.

My final year was enriched with varied practicums, including time in specialized clinics at the University of Waterloo. These clinics, focusing on areas such as binocular vision, low vision, sports vision, pediatric care, and ocular disease, were instrumental in sharpening my skills. A pinnacle of my educational journey was an externship at the esteemed OMNI Eye Centre in Atlanta, Georgia. There, I absorbed invaluable knowledge from leading Ophthalmologists and Optometrists, igniting my passion for ocular disease management through exposure to a myriad of unique cases.

Upon graduation, I returned to the beloved Alberta, eager to contribute to the Calgary community. I spent several years with LensCrafters, deepening my expertise in ocular disease and myopia control, with a special focus on glaucoma and dry eye disease. Recently, I've joined Specsavers, a globally respected company committed to delivering affordable, quality eyecare. Here, I continue to evolve professionally, driven by our shared mission to offer exemplary service to patients.

In Alberta, where dry eye disease is prevalent, I've had the opportunity to work with advanced technologies like Lipiflow, Intense Pulsed Light therapy, MiBoFlo, Radio Frequency, iLux, BlephEx, NuLids, AB Max, and more. Witnessing the significant improvement in patients' quality of life has been deeply fulfilling.

My interest in myopia control was sparked by my sister's struggles with escalating nearsightedness. Through dedicated research and practice, I've incorporated treatments like orthokeratology, MiSight and NaturalVue contact lenses, atropine eye drops, and Hoya MiyoSmart lenses into my practice. As one of the pioneering Optometrists in Calgary to offer these solutions, I've had the privilege of significantly reducing prescription progression in many patients.

This journey has been one of continuous learning and dedication, and I am committed to furthering my expertise to better serve the community.
